City of Deer Park, Texas
The City of Deer Park is known to many as the birthplace of Texas and is home to over 30,000 residents. The City is located approximately 50 miles from the Gulf of Mexico and they are definitely no strangers to the threat of hurricanes and floods. In 2005, the City was on alert as Hurricane Rita approached the Texas shores. City officials had all of their permanent records, dating from 1948-2005, scanned into their Laserfiche System, but realized they had no backup of them. Faced with the possibility of having to pack all of their records and transport them for safekeeping they contacted MCCi for support on how to backup their system.
City of Clear Lake Shores, Texas
Clear Lake Shores is an island community on the south shore of Clear Lake, referred to as the “Yachting Capital of Texas”. As a coastal community they keep a close eye on the weather during hurricane season to make sure they are one step ahead of any threats. In 2005 it seemed as though they were in the path of hurricane Rita. In preparation, they had the entire City staff working over the weekend packing their records in PODS containers to be taken offsite and away from danger. As you can imagine this was a VERY time consuming process.
City of Temple Terrace, Florida
“During a recent Continuity of Operations Plan training, we had a surprise “mock” disaster that none of us were expecting. This was the perfect opportunity as we sat and reviewed the status of each department and whether or not, or at what level, they could function in the days following such an incident. It was shocking what would occur and what has likely occurred around the state.
"Today they are armed with the knowledge of how to make sure their data is properly backed up in the event they need to prepare for evacuation."
